About Angeline
My love of learning and passion for helping others has led me to pursue a career as an educator. As an enthusiastic teacher, I am committed to helping students improve their abilities in math, in turn, fostering their motivation to learn. In 2015 I earned a BA degree in Mathematics with a Secondary Teaching Credential. On the required WEST-E exam I attained an upper percentile score of 284 out of 300, showcasing an aptitude. In 2019 I completed the requirements for a MS degree in Mathematics from Montana State University, focusing on Mathematics Education. In July 2019, I relocated to Vancouver to continue my career as a secondary mathematics teacher.
Prior to becoming a certificated teacher, I tutored both children and adults extensively. Initially I tutored for a few local companies in Tri-Cities, WA before tutoring privately. I founded Eclipse Tutoring in 2014, and it has since grown from just myself to over twenty tutors serving Tri-Cities, Spokane, Portland, and Vancouver. While tutoring helped to solidify my math proficiencies, as well as my one-on-one teaching methods, this entrepreneurial endeavor is also further proof of my dedication to learning.
From January 2016 to June 2019 I taught at Kamiakin High School. It was an incredible experience, having clarified my calling to teach. On a daily basis I implemented lesson plans, interacted with parents and staff, and actively furthered my rapport with students. With patience and humor, I consistently established a safe learning environment that was conducive to student progress. I lead the Algebra 1-2 Professional Learning Community, where we collaborated on common assessments and instructional strategies.
Recently, I also taught 8th grade mathematics (including two sections of co-taught) at View Ridge Middle School. Along with the Special Education co-teacher, I designed and delivered differentiated instruction, ensuring that all students learn. My methodology utilized formative assessment, and I was able to successfully enact various classroom management strategies. Working at the middle school level presented engaging challenges, which ultimately enabled me to hone my responsiveness. I am a lifelong learner, continually pursuing the steadfast quest to become a more effective educator.
Currently at Grant High School, we are 100% remote, projected to return April 19th for hybrid. While teaching virtually, I partnered with the other Dual-Credit Statistics teacher to reimagine what online learning can offer. I found opportunities for relationship building and curriculum augmentation to enhance the students’ online experience, and have continued with these strategies in Advanced Algebra 3-4. Semiweekly breakout rooms with carefully designed groupwork foster student engagement and content retention. Monthly one-on-one meetings solidify rapport with students, providing a space to both connect and to check in. Fortunately, Grant High School has enriched my practice in deep and lasting ways, as has each school where I have taught.
I strongly believe that all students can learn high-level mathematics. Equity, and ensuring all students learn is of fundamental importance to me. (My awareness of equity within the classroom has been cultivated from experience with students of various ages and backgrounds, including persons with disabilities.)
I have a passion for languages (with knowledge in Spanish, French, and German,) a love for mathematics, and am an avid reader. For leisure, I enjoy writing and doing puzzles.
